2018 The Problem Emerges

A San Diego bank owner approached us with challenges in CRE lending: lengthy pre-screening and underwriting processes, manual data entry causing delays and errors, and the risk of losing deals to faster competitors.

Discovery Phase

Despite searching for existing solutions, we found that while residential lending had seen technological advances, CRE lending was still heavily reliant on spreadsheets. We saw an opportunity in the $14T CRE market.

The ‘Aha’ Moment

After six months working with the bank to observe workflows, we discovered that 80% of analysts’ time was spent on repetitive data collection and entry, while only 20% was dedicated to analysis and decision-making.

A Way Forward

The strategy was clear: build a platform that complements existing systems rather than replaces them. Blooma would be a plug-and-play tool that integrates seamlessly through APIs and delivers immediate results, avoiding lengthy implementations.

2019 Product Development Begins

January 2020 Launch Origination Intelligence

Blooma launched with features that automate data extraction, borrower profiling, and loan scoring, allowing lenders to process deals in hours instead of days.

2021 Launch Portfolio Intelligence

Blooma introduced real-time portfolio monitoring, delivering automated risk alerts and insights that help lenders manage loans proactively.

Today

Blooma analyzes over $20B in loans annually and serves national and regional banks, community banks, private lenders, insurance companies, and debt funds.
